The fate of Sylvia K.

30th January 2010
"socialized like a southern European stray dog, begging for mercy"

"Sometimes I made good, sometimes I get around cancer," explains Sylvia K. (name changed) her life, city planner, she was, a TV writer, she had seen the world and always a feared: the loss of their freedom. Because she had been socialized as "a southern European stray dog - to try to clean off without the dog" in a children's home in northern Hesse. The consequences of that home education, which she would have to tell. Sylvia K. lives abroad, to return to Germany they will not.

The Assembly has set up a round table where the fate of children in the 50s, 60s and 70s worked should. How did you hear about this round table?

Sylvia K. Recently I heard on the radio WDR 5 a show. Reported, was that violence against children in care is discussed. My brother and I were victims of escalating violence. Although in Bremerhaven, we were brought into the remote northern Hesse. In the following years we saw our parents only once a year, alternately our father and mother. The place was called Vöhl, it was a children's home of the AWO.

Like other children in care also have your brother and you are experiencing violence?

Sylvia K. The then National Director was a picture-Nazi. He crushed my brother lying on the ground in front of my Eyes. He has never recovered from that. I have the pictures from the home in which I of 5 to 10 Age was still in mind. But the horrific events and my personal experiences I would not go. What

want to talk to it?

Sylvia K. about the aftermath. For one, I now know has suffered from the self-esteem - to suicide. It has socialized us like a Southern street dog, who in the pecking order at the bottom standing only whines for mercy, so he is not defeated. One I've always feared: the loss of my freedom and be subject to other People. I was branded. No matter what I did or where I was, I stayed home the child is ashamed of, because it was not like the others.

I know from your resume but that you have made high school and studied.

Sylvia K. right. I have to thank my mother and my combative intent, that I will never do it again to do with social misery. I studied geology and geography. I learned to fly, was city planner, learned as a TV writer to know the world, sometimes I made good time around I cancer.
