In the late 19th and in the early 20th Century offered booklet series such as the 'Public Library of Lahr Limping Messenger "cheap reading for the so-called people. Such series were forerunners of the later Roman books, often tailored to a younger readership. They reached high numbers, and often were quite durable. From the official critics mostly as "dirt and filth" labeled, they were often quite modest substance and arrested trivial action patterns.
